Stories We Carry is a national community building and social healing initiative, an ongoing series of live participatory events that bring together veterans and civilians to openly share their stories, misperceptions, and experiences about war. It is not: Therapy. Counseling. Political. Judgment.
To repair the moral injury of war, we must engage deeply with the individual soldiers who we have sent to do our killing and our dying. To do so means more than giving them “a hero’s welcome,” the bumper sticker and the ‘thank you for your service’ at the airport.
When veteran and civilian openly discuss stories, misperceptions and experiences about war, military service, and reintegration, we will collectively have a greater sense of shared responsibility, service, and support.
