Stories We Carry

Stories We Carry is an MHA-NYC initiative that provides veterans, their families, and their communities a safe space, free of politics, to engage in meaningful conversations about the impact of war on all citizens. With a grant from The New York Community Trust, MHA-NYC is bringing Stories We Carry to eight universities in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester Counties. With support from the MetLife Foundation, MHA-NYC is partnering with EnGarde Productions and their national tour of the theatrical performance, Basetrack, which is serving as the catalyst for Stories We Carry in select communities across the country.

The Mental Health Association of New York City (MHA-NYC) is dedicated to improving the emotional wellbeing of veterans through leading initiatives that address the rising and burdensome behavioral problems facing our nation’s heroes.
MHA-NYC utilizes a national crisis communication infrastructure to connect veterans in crisis and their families and friends with qualified, caring responders through the Veterans Crisis Line. The Veterans Mental Health Coalition (VMHC), and National Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Emotional Wellness Alliance’s Leadership Council on Veterans, Service Members, and Their Families provide information, resources, and education as well as promote policy and practice change to ensure access to quality mental health care and supportive services for veterans and their families.
